How Strong Are Your Roots?

Some fell on stony places, where they did not have much earth; and they immediately sprang up because they had no depth of earth.  But when the sun was up they were scorched, and because they had no root they withered away“.
Matthew 13:5‭-‬6 NKJV

Jesus was in a boat speaking to a group of people.  To fulfill prophecy, He spoke in story form rather than facts.  Later, He would explain the story.

But he who received the seed on stony places, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy;  yet he has no root in himself, but endures only for a while. For when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles“.
Matthew 13:20‭-‬21 NKJV

Anyone who gardens knows that without a strong root system, the plants will not grow.  Same thing with our children.  We need to root them in the Word when they are young.  So it is a part of their being.  As a father of three, this is as much a “message” for me.

After a hard week at work; waking up early, getting the kids to the sitter, or making sure they have what they need for the day.  The last thing you feel like doing is getting every one ready on Sunday, putting on a smile, and heading to worship.

But it is there, while they are children, that the roots start to grow.  Just like planting a seed in the right season.  If you try to plant spring and summer fruits and vegetables in fall, you will not get the desired result.

Plus, it is good for Christians to be with like minded individuals.  People who share our beliefs and desires.  But that’s another article.

Nurture your garden.  Get the desired fruit.  How strong are your roots?

Find refuge, in the Word.
